The Hatch

Required rescinds in the rearview mirror and the steady beat of white
Breaking black peels out smooth before the eyes like stretched taught skin.
My feet feel heavier and a point of focus
Continues to slip over the next rise.
Bursts bright but I persist, for slowing down would only suspend the ending that is sought.
Fingers tap the wheel and impatience pounds at the situation.
A ripple of excitement that tears forth from a place
That feels completely comforting in the ache
Of its temporary emptiness.
And I...I’m coming home.
And at that, I know. In this chest, in this tightness.
And at that, I know. In this chest, in this tightness.
And at that, I know. In this chest, in this tightness
And at that, I know. In this chest, in this tightness
And I’m coming home.

3am when they hit the lights. We’ll ride it down and out.
This was poorly planned, at best.
We’re doing this, get in touch. Got the time and can push our luck.
Life’s only fun when it is a mess.
It was time to mobilize, but the keys are left behind
Fresh air could only hide the taste.
Curled traffic, Richmond. What we do we do for love.
The call booms, there’s no time to waste.
Room swells, boards bend. All here joined as friends.
Once it begins ‘hold on’!
And I have to say ‘I love this song by the way’.
These shared strings are our bond.
It could be the perfect song
We all know the tune to hum
This space, these friends
Lonely hearts sing along
It could be the perfect song
We all know the tune to hum
This space, these friends
Lonely hearts sing along

I really wish I had a simple understanding
Of the way in which I was supposed to act
I could put it into a letter that would probably make you mad.
I feel like I'm sailing a dead horse through a carnival
Or what ever that analogy's supposed to mean
I think I'll stick with whatever's working
And I'll just stick rhyming
I tried writing you a story
You said stick to what you know
Unless that means go drinking
I guess you'll stay the course at home.
So ok your right I'll try to make an effort
Kinda the same in some way different somehow
Got your message your leaving
You said your moving towns
So I guess a witty joke is out of the question
Its kinda lost on a over weight alien from the moon
I guess I'll stick with what's working
And I'll just sing out of tune.
I tried writing you a story, you said stick to what you know
Well I guess that meant go drinking, I guess you'll stay the course at home.
I tried writing you a story, you said stick to what you know
Well I guess that meant go drinking, I guess you'll stay the course at home.
I tried writing you a story, you said stick to what you know
Well I guess that meant go drinking, I guess you'll stay the course at home.

Roll over, eyes closed
Life can’t be ignored.
I’ve got a lot to do today
Like drowning at my desk.
Sleepwalking through the week
Keep marching to the beat
In transit and into line
Arrive on time and fall in line
Why would I want to come in
Just to listen to you say
‘misplaced autonomy’?
Has to be more to this day.
Sleepwalking through the week
Keep marching to the beat
In transit and into line
Arrive on time and fall in line
Why would I want to come in
Just to listen to you say
‘misplaced autonomy’?
Has to be more to this day.
Would you willingly drive yourself
To the worst day of your life?
What’s happening here is
What we swore never would.
Would you willingly drive yourself
To the worst day of your life?
What’s happening here is
What we swore never would.
Let me be more than those things
That occupy most of my time.
Let me be more than those things
That occupy my time.

My City, Get Even
03:10
|
|||
I get confused, on the roof of my city,
I want to stand but im cutting, corners,
And im drinking bottles of winter chill
I scale it back the complication, I'm fucking tired,
I need action, one-liners
And I’m seeing, and all I'm seeing is half the view
And if we keep running we’ll find someone we knew,
So what If we blow it all in one night, what is there to lose?
And if we keep running we’ll find someone we knew
Give up give in and get even.
I count the times, that I counted the conversations
A million whys and avoiding my questions
Try avoiding the chaser as well
We’re all around and we’re staring, fucking tired
Of complaining, nerves severed
I swear I saw it, I swear I saw a stronger version of you.
And if we keep running we’ll find someone we knew
What if we blow it all in one night what is there to lose?
And if we keep running we’ll find someone we knew
Give up, lay down, get up and get even.

I thought of you the other day
but 8th grade Geography wasn’t the reason
I couldn’t find you on the map.
It was much simpler than that.
And it’s not that I’m a bad person,
I just don’t want to hang
with someone whose views are as
outdated as my hair.
If I didn't give a shit then,
I don’t know why I would now.
It’s not that time is slipping away.
Instead I’m sure that it’s skipping
and I’m stuck here content.
And it’s not that I’m a bad person,
I just don’t want to hang
with someone whose views are as
out of step as my hair.
If I didn't give a shit then,
I don’t know why I would now.
I found my place in life
and it might be on the losing side,
but at least I’m not on your team.
